Taylor Donaldson lives in Montreal, Quebec where he is a busy member of the music scene, working as a trombonist, composer, arranger, music copyist and editor. Born in Kingston, Ontario, Taylor is a graduate of the Schulich School of Music at Montreal’s McGill University, where he received his masters degree in Music Performance in 2011.

As a performer, Taylor leads his own 17-piece big band and small jazz ensembles, and works regularly as a sideman for groups in Quebec and Ontario. He has shared the stage with Christine Jensen, Oliver Jones, Diane Dufresne, Aaron Parks & Franky Rousseau, Tim Hagans, The Joe Sullivan Big Band, David Braid, Carol Welsman, and many others. Most recently, Taylor was an invited guest soloist with l’Orchestre National de Jazz de Montréal for a concert featuring his original works for big band. He has travelled to perform for concerts in the United States, Britain, France, Switzerland, China and Japan, including a trip in the summer of 2013 to Normandy, France with the Cataraqui Brass Quintet to perform for the June 6th D-Day Memorial service at Juno Beach. Along with his work as a freelancer in jazz and popular music, for the 2008-2009 season Taylor was the Principal Trombonist of the Kingston Symphony Orchestra, and since that time has returned as a regular extra player with the orchestra.

As an arranger and composer, in addition to writing charts for his own ensembles, Taylor has written music for l’Orchestre National de Jazz de Montréal, l’Orchestre Symphonique de Québec, The Toronto Jazz Orchestra, and many others. He has also provided string/horn and orchestral arrangements for several pop/rock recording sessions, including EPs by Canadian indie rock bands The Franklin Electric and The Gertrudes. Some of Taylor’s arrangements for big band and jazz ensembles are available through Whitewater Music Publications and some for classical trombone ensemble are published by Warwick Music (UK).
